Taxonomy

Genus: Cymaclymenia

Subfamily: Cymaclymeniinae

Family: Cymaclymeniidae

Sutural formula: L U I or E A L U I. Lateral lobe: asymmetric, rounded, or acute. Conch shape: discoidal or pachyconic. Ornament: growth lines and fine ribs.
Klug & Korn, 2002, Ammoneae Devonicae, Chapter 8

Superfamily: Cyrtoclymenioidea

Cyrtoclymeniina with thinly discoidal to pachyconic conch, narrow to moderately wide umbilicus, deep whorl overlap, and moderately high whorl expansion rate. Basic sutural formula [L] I, septum simply domed without inflexions. Usually without external lobe, but derived forms with external, adventive, and umbilical lobes. Ornament with concavo-convex or biconvex growth lines. Weak ribs present in many species. Thin siphuncle.
Klug & Korn, 2002, Ammoneae Devonicae, Chapter 8

Suborder: Cyrtoclymeniina

Clymeniids with thinly discoidal to pachyconic, usually “goniatitoid” conch, narrow to moderately wide umbilicus. Deep imprint zone, and moderately high whorl expansion rate. Basic sutural formula [L] I, many modifications during phylogeny (development of external, adventive, and umbilical lobes). Septa in early forms simple-domed without inflexion; derived forms with strong marginal inflexions. Ornament with concavo-convex or slightly biconvex growth lines, weak ribs present in many species.
Klug & Korn, 2002, Ammoneae Devonicae, Chapter 8

Order: Clymeniida

Ammonoids with dorsal siphuncle. Conchs thinly discoidal to pachyconic, umbilicus very wide to closed. Low to deep imprint zone, and low to moderately high whorl expansion rate. Basic sutural formula [L] I, many modifications during phylogeny (development of external, adventive, and umbilical lobes). Septa in early forms simple-domed without inflexion; derived forms with anticlastically folded septa. Ornament rarely with convex, mostly with concavo-convex or biconvex growth lines. Weak ribs present in many species.
Klug & Korn, 2002, Ammoneae Devonicae, Chapter 8
